It’s a bright warm day as you traverse Boulder Woods. Rays of sunshine peek pass the overhead green foliage soaking up the yellow light underneath the blue sky. Jutting from the tough soil are giant stone spires draped in wet moss along their cool weathered surfaces.

The forest is alive with birds singing, bugs chattering, and deer prancing between the looming boulders. Beneath the shade of a massive rock are you, your fellow young packmates, and your Fullblood mentor lurking in the shadows.

Today is your first exercise in hunting. Your mentor will assess your skills at catching prey to see if you have what it takes to be a member of the pack.

As a pup, you are not as strong nor as fast as your adult mentor. To fulfill your mission, you must work with your packmates to take down a deer.

Scouting the area, you notice several ample targets for your first hunt. Turning to your packmates, you coordinate a strategy.

[Choice 1a](Durability 2 or Vigor 2) Being one of the stronger pups of the litter, you and your packmates decide to target one of the younger bucks who are separated from the herd to eat some moss off a nearby boulder. Using your superior brawn, you go toe-to-toe with the horned buck, wrestling the grazing animal to the ground before the rest of the pack descends to devour the male deer. Dragging the corpse of your kill to your mentor, the Fullblood brims with pride. You have successfully proven that you are a true worven and a worthy member of the pack. (Gain +5 Growth and +5 Reputation).

[Choice 1b](Agility 2 or Survival 2) While not a strong pup, you are, however, much more clever. Spotting a fawn at the bank of a river separated from its mother, you strategize with your fellow Newbloods to spook the young deer into the water while you wait below its surface. It takes some time to get into position, but after creeping from bush to bush to hide, you’re able to reach the river and submerge into the flowing water unnoticed. After some time, your packmates burst from the shrubs, howling at the fawn. Terrified, the young deer jumps into the water to escape the Newbloods as they chase it to the edge of the river. However, your prey doesn’t get far before your jaws clamp on one of its hooves, dragging it down into the water. Your efforts to keep it from escaping buy your packmates some time to assist you with drowning the young deer until its small body goes limp. Dragging the corpse of your kill to your mentor, the Fullblood brims with pride. You have successfully proven that you are a true worven and a worthy member of the pack. (Gain +5 Growth and +5 Reputation).

[Choice 2](Unsuccessful Test) While unable to bring down a deer, you can tear a piece of flesh off the hide of your prey. The young deer bucks you and your packmates off its back as it retreats to the protection provided by the herd. Bringing your scraps to the Fullblood, the worven is pleased that you’ve torn a significant chunk of meat to satiate your hunger, but it’s not enough to feed all your packmates. (Choose between gaining Growth +5 if you selfishly eat the raw venison or Reputation +5 if you decide to share the chunk of meat with your packmates).

With the rest of the herd fleeing in terror, your mentor decides to lead you and your fellow Newbloods back to your pack’s camp.
